Volvo Trucks expands advanced diesel technician training focus with college partnerships

Volvo Trucks is working with technical colleges to expand technician training programs.

Volvo Trucks North America is expanding its focus on training skilled professional vehicle service technicians through expansion of the Diesel Advanced Technology Education (DATE) program. Beginning in early 2019, Volvo will partner with three colleges in Florida, Ohio and Texas.

Eric Turner, Sr. of Ellenwood, Ga. captured Best of Show honors with his 2015 Peterbilt 389 with a 2018 Wally-Mo 8 car hauler at the 36th Annual Shell ROTELLA SuperRigs competition held June 14-16 at White's Travel Center in Raphine, Va. He was awarded $10,000 from Shell ROTELLA and $5,000 from MAC trailer. Turner also won for Best Interior.

Freightliner Trucks premiered two fully electrified commercial vehicles, a Freightliner eCascadia heavy-duty truck and a Freightliner eM2 106 medium-duty truck, during the Daimler Trucks Capital Market and Technology Day in Portland, OR. Freightliner plans to deliver an Electric Innovation Fleet of 30 vehicles to customers later this year for further testing under real-world operating conditions.

Daimler announces Automated Truck Research and Development Center creation

Daimler Trucks announced the creation of an Automated Truck Research and Development Center in Portland, Ore. The facility will be located at Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) headquarters on Swan Island in Portland, where DTNA already has a significant research and development presence, including a full-scale heavy-duty truck wind tunnel on Swan Island and the High Desert Proving Grounds nearby in Madras, Ore.
